Whitelisting Legacy Systray Applets in Ubuntu 12.04

Since this procedure is a little different than in Oneiric / 11.10, I thought I’d share my findings:

First, install “dconf-editor” from the “dconf-tools” package:

1
sudo apt-get install -y dconf-tools

Next, type “Alt + F2” and type “dconf-editor”

Navigate to “desktop —> unity —> panel”

Add a “systray-whitelist” for your application. In this case the application is “Shutter.”

Log out and back in. Your application will now have an entry next to all your indicators.
